Search Engine Optimization Techniques For Better Rankings And Traffic
There are literally millions of websites online today and everyday hundreds of new ones are created so it can be a difficult challenge to get your site noticed by the search engines unless you learn how to optimize it effectively. There are two primary aspects to seo and that is on site and off site optimization techniques. On site optimization involves adding relevant and profitable keyword terms in the right locations so your page has a good chance of ranking well for that term. Do not stuff too many keywords in the keywords meta tag as that is not effective and can get your site penalized, instead add 5 to 10 relevant terms in that tag and make sure to include the main keyword you are targeting.
Target one main keyword per page:
Do not try to rank for more than one main keyword per page on your site. Use a keyword tool like the Google keyword tool external to locate good keywords that have high search volumes and look for terms that have 3 words in them as they are easier to rank for. You may even want to consider creating separate sites for each main keyword since the search engines rarely rank a site at the top for multiple high volume terms so you will need to register separate domains and target one main keyword per domain. Try to get the main keyword in the domain name if you can as this will help to increase the likelihood of ranking for that term.
Always add the main keyword also once in the description and title meta tags as this is a key component to doing well for that term. On your page you want to have at least 500 words of text content as search engines read text and do not care about graphics or fancy flash intros and such. You want the main keyword to also appear a couple of times towards the top and bottom of your pages but do not go over board and keyword stuff your pages as that will not work. Off page optimization is also very important and the main aspect of this is learning to get quality and relevant inbound links to your site. There are many ways to accomplish this and the best long term approach is to of course create a site that people will love and will share with others on their own sites or on blogs and social network sites. These kinds of organic inbound links are valuable but can take a lot of time so be sure to focus also on creating a quality and truly unique site.
